When first found out our first project was on Cabaret my first thought went straight to the film I watched 'Burlesque'. After watching clips from the film 'Cabaret' I could see a clear connection between the two films. Including hair styles, make up, fashion and even the movement used on the stage. Many of the scene had similar lighting and camera angles. For example Sally Bowles is the main character in the Kit Kat club the lighting is always directed straight at her similarly to Christina Aguilera in Burlesque. The Weimar republic era began in the 1920s before World War 1. It was in the midst of several major fine arts movement. Berlin was the place to be, people all around the world went to Berlin to fulfil there dreams. It had the top Architects, Artist, Scientist and great education.
In this project I hope to research many different sources such as 'Goodbye to Berlin' by Christopher Isherwood. 'I 'am a Camera' by John Van Druten. 'Cabaret' directed by Bob Fosse and 'Christopher and his Kind' directed by Geoffrey Sax. After researching hope to develop my ideas by looking into more contemporary sources to help me develop my characters. After doing the summer project https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8214256088918534759#allposts I found it really helped looking into colour and the use of colour in scenes to create moods and style. I found this will be helpful in my new project. I also enjoyed looking at the use of colour in make up and hair style to create different moods. Such as blood red lips could represent danger or lust.
My main concerns in this project is trying to create my own characters with new individual looks instead of trying to re create ones that have already been done. I hope by doing enough research I will be able to interpret Cabaret in my own style.
